That software was OpenClaw, and the scene, first reported by Reuters, does a lot to explain the global craze. Chinese AI startups are racing to install and use the open-source software created by Austrian software developer Peter Steinberger late last year.</p>

Anthropic takes aim at OpenClaw
On a recent Friday afternoon, nearly 1,000 people lined up outside Tencent’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China, just to get a piece of software installed on their laptops. That software was OpenClaw, and the scene, first reported by Reuters, does a lot to explain the global craze. Chinese AI startups are racing to install and use the open-source software created by Austrian software developer Peter Steinberger late last year.
The OpenClaw appeal is easy to grasp: An LLM agent has access to your local drive and is operated via messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord. Users can do real work using AI with applications and hardware they already know.
